Guest post: should Mets develop CC email technology?

Good morning,

Mark, you know him as the rather amusing @toogooden16, asked me to jump on this topic, so I shall.  I am not all that familiar with this topic but I will let Mark’s words set this up.

Towards the end of last season, myself and a friend bought four seats for the remaining games left in the season. We decided to renew this year and we split the payment in half for the seats on the Mets website, so we each own two. We had to pick one of us to be the primary contact on the account, we couldn’t both be, so my friend is the primary. The Mets send emails to season ticket holders with offers, promotions and pre-sales to other events being held at Citi Field, however I am not eligible to receive any of those emails. The Mets system only allows one email address per season ticket holder account. I emailed my representative on more than one occasion asking to be added to a list and I am told it is simply not possible.

So what we’re getting at is Mark and his friend who I will name Joe are sharing a season ticket plan.  All emails go to Joe.  Actually, as I dust off my brain I realize I shared tickets with someone the last season at Shea, and the tickets were in his name, so when I got back in for 2009 I had to start as a new account.

Anyways, Mark shared with me some of his nice cordial email exchanges with his ticket rep (who was also cordial).  In the end, it looks like they can only assign one email address to one account.

Does anyone know what other teams do? Is this industry standard? Is this some sort of anti-scalper anti-ticket broker something? Is Mark unreasonable wanting a code or a copy on an email? What might be the downside, if any, of adding Mark’s email address to Joe’s account.  What if if it were my wife and I and that I often travel for business? Should I be able to add her or should I just forward anything?

In my personal experience I have always found the Mets ticketing folks to be quite helpful and easy to deal with so I am not here to just attack the system, however it seems like an interesting off-field topic.
