So do pitchers need a full Spring Training or not?

Question: Do MLB pitchers actually need a full Spring Training?

I ask because the Mets have chosen to keep their Fab 5 our of games for an extra week or so because they pitched a lot last season.  At first glance that makes some sense.

Why then would other teams already be using their aces?  Are the other teams just foolish?  Do pitchers not need to get ready at the start of March?

What about that pesky dead-arm period that pitchers get?  Won’t that just come a week later now?  Isn’t that now awfully close to the start of the season.

I’m sure the Mets have a good plan, and it is these other 29 teams that are wasting bullets in early March.
