I feel bad for Neil Walker.

Walker

Much like with David Wright, I hope the man is OK, and we can worry about the baseball part later.  As for that baseball part, Neil had one of the finest seasons in Mets second-base history, and will finish up .282 23 and 55.  Unresearched, I feel like the home runs were “big” for the most part and not add-ons.  He played a nice second base, he didn’t do anything annoying.

This injury will cost him money.  Figure another month of similar stats into his free agent year will have set him up nicely.  I can’t imagine the Mets taking a chance on another player with back issues, so who knows where Neil’s future in baseball lies.  Perhaps he’ll have to take a one year deal and hope his back is OK and he can put up big numbers again, or maybe that big payday never comes now.

As for the Mets at second base – what do I know, my guess is they will pretend Wright is playing third base next year, declare Reyes the second baseman, torture Flores some more, and then move Reyes to third when they realize Wright is done, and then scramble at second.  That’s March’s problem. Right now I just wish Mr. Walker the best.
