Happy September everyone. I thought I’d take the changing of the calendar to alert the Mets, their fans, and all the stakeholders that the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks are coming up.
It would be a nice gesture if the Mets could wear first responder caps on the field DURING THE GAME in Atlanta that day.
I know 9/11 sneaks up on everyone every year and they don’t seem able to find a way to wear first responder caps on the field even though MLB has figured out a way to wear Mother’s Day caps and Father’s Day caps and Stars and Stripes Caps and ribbons and one time even had Spiderman bases.
And should MLB not “approve” this, I propose the Mets accidentally take the field in the wrong cap. We see this happen from time to time in games across baseball and the world does not seem to end. It would be up to the umpires to enforce the rule, and as we have seen, umpires often choose not to enforce uniform rules. I’d also love to see the national reaction to making the Mets remove the caps.
Anyway, hopefully this gets done this year, and when it doesn’t I will be sure to bring it up again next year. Discuss!
