According to this report in the Daily News, Gary Cohen’s contract is up.
Now, what’s good for us is that SNY prides themselves on an excellent broadcast.
However, it is common for business executives to ask rhetorical questions like “would fewer people watch if Gary weren’t on.” The answer to that is no. If the Mets have a 100 win team, they could put Jeter, Hank Steinbrenner and Chipper Jones in the booth and Mets fans would watch.
More good news is that there is no heir apparent. If KB were still there, I could see this being on the table as a discussion. But I don’t see anyone in house who would be the next logical PBP guy, nor do I see SNY going outside and brining in a new face and/or “a kid.”
So Gary will be back. Huzzah.
