I know he’s Big Sexy but not sexy in the way the long-hairs and the superheroes are, but Bartolo Colon did two things:
- He took his starts
- He won the most games on the staff every year he was here.
Yeah he’s 43, yeah he’s not the most svelte of people, but he took the ball and won.
When you have guys that don’t take their starts it puts stress on the entire system. I’ve said this before, and I will say it again – I don’t care what your “fifth” starter does (cough, led team in wins) as long as he takes his starts. Eat innings. Save the bullpen for the stubblier starts.
I had advocated for the Mets bringing Dickey back to eat innings and swing, and I loved the way Colon ate innings.
Now, you have a bunch of sexy question marks coming off injuries, plus The Gazelle Man and Lugo. The rotation is worse now than it was last night.
Bad stuff Mets. Wait until Mets fans figure out Cespedes is actually gone.
