Mets Twitter 1975: Mets fleece Tigers with Lolich for Staub trade

Another great trade for the Mets!

In Mickey Lolich the Mets get another ace on the staff.  The guy has won double digits heading back all the way to 1964.  Sure he was a little sub-par in 1975, but that’s how the Mets were able to get him for Staub.

Rusty was nice and all, and yeah we’ll miss his 19 HRs and 105 RBI, but the 1976 OF projects to be Milner, Unser and Kingman – and there’s this stud kid Mazzilli that I think could contrib….

.…OK I can’t continue.   I kind of sort of was able to make sense of Fregosi for Ryan the other day, but I can’t at all make sense of this one 40 years later.  Rusty had some serious numbers, and its not like the Mets lacked for pitching – Matlack, Seaver (only 14 wins in 1976 at age 31, is he washed up?) and Koosman (21 wins) at the top of the staff.   Lolich was 35 years old, which in 1976 years is like being 55 now.

I’d love to keep doing a schtick post here but i can’t.  Older Mets fans, what the hell was this trade about? Take the discussion to Facebook.
