Here is a list of Mets who are not 100% focused on winning the 2017 World Series, as they will leave the team to play in the silly World Baseball Classic. This is particularly interesting in the cases of guys who might make the rotation or might be asked to play a position they have never played in the majors.
I understand the desire and honor to represent one’s country. However, if you’re playing with one team you aren’t playing with the other. MLB needs to rethink the timing of this tournament.
I will continue to propose skipping the All Star Game every 4 years and playing some sort of sprint week-long tournament in its place. Surely soccer could provide MLB with some sort of road-map to figure this out.
