Annual Waxing Poetic Mets Opening Day Post

Well friends, another season arrives.  For Mets Police this will be the 10th season of discussing baseball with y’all, and this one looks to be a good one.

I won’t make Opening Day this year with a combination of work meeting at 11:30, having to be at another gig at 6, and my kid just not being into it.  It will be the first Opener at Citi Field that I miss, and maybe the first of the 21st century.  It’s been a while anyway…and my numbers will drop to something like being at all but 4 since 1982 or such.  Anyway, just not feeling it, and really not feeling it for $100 in a ballpark I do not love.

As for the Mets – a good team.  A team to which I am not particularly attached, nor dis-attached.  I do not have a current favorite player, but hopefully some gritty unsung hero will become the guy I root for.  In the meantime, I’ll root for the laundry as we all do, and hope the laundry wins a ring (while dressed properly).

There’s a million articles about the team.  Yes they have In Theory Pitching and In Theory Power and despite The Narrative pretty decent depth.  If you had to throw out a lineup with Montero, T.J., Conforto and some of the other non-starters it would be way better than some actual lineups being run out there as late as Day Before Cespedes.

So I won’t bore you with that, I’ll race to get to a TV by 1pm, will be sad I miss The Ceremonies (a part I like more than the game) and maybe I can make it to the 2018 Opener and see a Championship Flag go up for the first time since I was a teenager.  It’s been a long long time Mets.  Even the Red Sox and Cubs have won since.  Let’s get this done.
