I hear an annoying sound during WOR Mets games…is this why?

Have you noticed that annoying metallic pulsing sound during Mets games?  It’s hard to describe in words. but it’s a soft WAH-wah  WAH-wah like a metallic  version of a European police siren.

It’s there during Mets games but not during normal WOR programming.   It’s really annoying and often makes me switch to the App (which as we have well discussed has it’s own problems).

I’m wondering if WOR is doing something to its signal to work the ratings.  If you want to dive deep into this topic, read this article on 538, but the short version is this:

Some think that the new style devices that are used to collect ratings don’t do so well picking up silence – thus uptempo dance music does well, and spoken word does not….and Howie Rose taking a beat between pitches (as baseball should be done, great job Howie Rose) would have a lot of silences…..

….so maybe WOR is turning on a device to go WAH-wah which drives me nuts.

Listen closely today and you’ll hear it.

Personally, I think the AM band is cooked.  There is too much electrical noise and even stations that used to boom in (like the two all news stations) are harder to hear than ever, and you probably have realized WOR’s signal is not as good as WFAN’s in some areas.   I’d like to hear the Mets on FM somwhere.

It’s not going to happen, nor do I expect anyone to turn off the metallic drone (and from a ratings standpoint they are probably right if my theory is correct) – but boy does it make the product less enjoyable.
