David Wright: Will This Guy Manage The Mets? No.

Will David Wright manage the Mets?  No.

This one is the silliest of all.  Two words.  Buddy Harrelson.

You kids don’t remember but there was a time when Bud Harrelson was hands down the second most popular Met in Mets history.  Yes it was half the franchise’s life ago and we hadn’t yet met Mike Piazza or Edgardo Alfonzo or even David Wright – but Buddy was in the Pantheon.

Then he managed the Mets and got booed so far out town he’s barely been back in Queens since.  If you are over 40 you know what a shame that is.  If you are under 40 you have no idea who Buddy Harrelson is.

So David Wright can –

a) continue to rehab and hopefully make it back, while making $25 million a year

or

b) not make $25 million but travel anyway plus have fans turn on him the first time the bullpen blows a lead.  Why would he do that?  It can only end in disaster.  Don’t forget the Mets are rebuilding.

Not happening.
