Queens BP floats soccer and hockey dreams for Willets Point

Hey it’s election time so let’s just throw things out there like….

if re-elected, Katz called either a hockey or soccer stadium being built in Willets Point in the near future “very realistic,” with the New York Islanders and New York City Football Club seen as possible tenants.

Sure!  A soccer stadium is getting built.  And the local real estate developers would love to take care of their friends The Steinbrenners and hook them up with some land for a soccer stadium.  And the Islanders are going to play in the soccer stadium too because soccer and hockey are played on similar size surfaces, so all the sight-lines will be awesome for this retractable dome hockey/soccer arena (or is it an outdoor hockey arena, or will the NYCFCs play inside.)

Oh wait, there’s more…

“Right now, only about 35 acres has the city taken over,” she added. “So you wouldn’t probably be able to do the Islanders plus a soccer stadium there. If there’s only one, I want soccer and affordable housing.”

Oh yeah that darn pesky affordable housing.  And don’t forget the new schools.

Let me know when the first NYCFC game is on 126th street and I will be there with my very realistic date Evangeline Lilly.
