Friends, I come here today not to bury Matt Harvey but to praise him.
I know, right?
As The Dark Knight tries and fails to skate by on fumes I think back to late 2015.
You remember late 2015, right? There was talk of Matt shutting it down for the season, and/or taking a few weeks off and/or doing some “half starts” to save some milage on his arm.
At the time, many of us, myself very much included, wanted him to pitch.
For me, this was simple. Shots at the World Series are quite rare. For most of you reading you have seen two Mets World Series appearances, maybe three, possibly four, and two of you old guys say five. But for most, two or three and they come around every 15 years with the next scheduled for around 2030 just in time for Rosario to retire as a champion.
Anyway – the mindset was GO FOR IT – and TDK has never been the same since.
So, Matt Harvey, if you did give your career for the Mets fans, I thank you. I don’t know how your arm feels in an alternate universe where you shut it down, and maybe on Earth-2 you are making a lot more money.
All that being said, I will never second guess this. The Mets ad a real shot. A very legitimate shot and they went for it. I said at the time to go for it and not to worry about the future, and I still say that now.
So, thank you Matt Harvey.
