Mets Police Morning Laziness: Even the losers

SLACKISH REACTION:  I’m really sad about the passing of Tom Petty, one of my favorites.  It really was a reminder of how fast time goes.  Tom was someone I had seen in concert many times, and I guess I thought I would see him again.  As I drove around last night listening to his music it was odd to think that earlier in the day he was alive and now he was gone.

As for the passage of time, and to bring this back to the Mets, you can be a teenager watching the Mets almost lose the World Series in 1986, but you get luck sometimes and tie it up on a Bucker error and get the ring.  And then 30 years go by and you find yourself middle-aged waiting for that second chance to feel that feeling, and it might never come.

Thank you Tom for keeping me company on a lot of commutes.

MORE NETTING NOW:  I think our society is crazy.  I am sad that a little girl got injured by a foul ball which immediately resulted in MORE NETTING NOW and everyone getting right on that*, but if I want to start a discussion about Assault Rifles I have half the internet get mad at me.  As I said on twitter, I appreciate your well regulated militia’s efforts to stop the British from taxing my tea again, but I think we may need to revisit the laws of the 1790s and take a look at the implications in the 2010s.  After all, we have added netting to baseball games to keep people safe.

As for More Netting Now – is it a threat or not?  The Yankees have announced they will have more netting next year but are about to host a playoff game with no additional netting.  Are the fans not at risk tonight?  Have the foul balls decided they won’t attack fans until next year?  I don’t see how this works.

NOT LINKING:  The newspaper says the Mets want to talk to Bob Geren and Alex Cora.  If you are new, NOT LINKING summarizes articles so you don’t have to read the other 500 words since all you need to know is the Mets want to talk to Geren and Cora.

NOT LINKING:  Jacob deGrom cut his hair.  This is major content for some other blogs.

LINK: some semi-revisionist history about how the Mets should have signed Colon.
