March 29th – Jacob deGrom defeats the Cardinals 3-1 on a Yoenis Cespedes home run. Amed Rosario is 2-3. First baseman Adrian Gonzalez is 0-3. Despite an announced sellout, there appears to be 17,000 unfilled seats and a large gathering of fans just outside the parking lot. Wilmer Flores is the every day second baseman.
April 15th – on Youth Baseball Glove Day, Mickey Callaway uses 8 relievers to close out the Matt Harvey start as the Mets win their 6th in a row in front of just 18,000 fans. 2,000 giveaway items go unused. A large gathering of fans is spotted just outside the parking lot. MetsPolice.com celebrates its 10th anniversary.
May 1 – the first place Mets return home to a shocking low crowd of just 19,241 paid but on TV the place looks even more empty. At a local bar, a large gathering of fans has their weekly meeting to discuss the Wilpons treatment of Mets alumni. Amed Rosario is hitting .342 but first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is struggling at .161. Gavin Cecchini takes over as the every day second baseman.
May 15 – the Mets have a 6 game lead in the east, but Darren is surprised to find that nobody has shown up for The 7 Line Army game. Citi Field is mostly Blue Jays fans, but a local convention hall is hosting a large group of united Mets fans who are protesting something. Adrian Gonzalez is 0 for 4. Nine relievers get the final 12 outs as Matt Harvey increases his record to 6-1.
June 1 – David Wright makes his well publicized return to the lineup in front of a surprisingly empty Citi Field. With a 10 game lead, the Mets hope to ease Wright back into the lineup, with Wilmer Flores playing every third day. Asdrubal Cabrera takes over as the every day second baseman. Meanwhile, a group of Mets fans marches through Times Square to protest the Wilpons. Adrian Gonzalez gets the day off, Dom Smith goes 3 for 4. A blogger mentions the illegal orange t-shirt.
June 9 – Gary Cohen openly mocks Darren on TV for sitting in an entire section alone. Other than that one section, Citi Field is full for the first time all season although mostly Yankees fans. Aaron Judge and Mike Stanton tee off on Matt Harvey dropping his record to 10-2. In sports bars everywhere Mets fans are irate and the Mets lead over the Marlins drops to 9 games. The Mets take the next two games of the series.
July 7 – Citi Field is surprisingly empty on Jacob deGrom Bobblehead Day. A united group of Mets fans with bags over their heads have bought tickets on Seat Geek (so as not to support the Wilpons by using Stub Hub). They enter Citi Field, collect their bobbleheads and leave. Amed Rosario is 4 for 4. The Mets sign Long Island Ducks second baseman Jose Reyes who takes over as the every day second baseman. David Wright is batting .280 with 4 home runs.
July 17 – Matt Harvey is on the mound for the 2018 National League All Stars. Amed Rosario still batting .340 is the shortstop and an annoying blogger repeatedly mentions that Daniel Murphy is the second baseman.
July 24 – the Mets have a 15 game lead, but once again Darren finds himself sitting completely alone as the sole remaining member of The 7 Line Army. A united group of Mets fans now claims to have 300,000 followers on Facebook. David Wright hits his 7th home run. Adrian Gonzalez may be heating up as his average gets above .200 for the fist time all season. Matt Harvey strikes out 14 in five innings, but throws 104 pitches so Mickey Callaway uses 7 relievers plus Noah Syndergaard on his throwing day to close out Matt’s 14th win.
July 30 – a group of Mets fans bombards #1 Radio Host Chris Carlin with calls about how the Mets need to do something! The Nationals, 17 games behind the Mets, begin unloading players. Jose Reyes is batting .084 but he really does have a nice smile.
July 31 – assistant to the General Manager Omar Minaya has worked out a trade with the Nationals to acquire pending free agent Daniel Murphy and takes the deal to Jeff Wilpon. Sandy Alderson is outraged at the insubordination and announces his resignation and retirement. The Mets acquire Murphy for prospects. Mets fans are thrilled that the Mets finally did something. Jose Reyes is released to make room on the roster.
August 4 – Citi Field is packed for Thor Bobblehead Day! Daniel Murphy gets a standing ovation from the full house of 47,00 fans. Mets merchandise is flying off the shelves. A local blogger calls out the fake phony fans and is told that he is “too negative.”
August 25 – the 7 line Army is back – Darren can’t even get into his own section as people have snuck in wearing their brand new The Dark Knight tees. Harvey does not let the crowd down, striking out 13 in 5 innings as Mickey Callaway uses 7 relievers to get the final 12 outs as Matt raises his record to 18-2. The Mets have a 20.5 game lead. A scheduled off-site meeting of Mets fans goes unattended.
September 10 – David Wright hits his 15th home run. Daniel Murphy has been ice cold since returning to Citi Field. Gary Cohen gets in a Net Negative dig, and fans are upset about Murph’s defense. The Mets clinch the National League East as Matt Harvey wins his 20th game, throwing 116 pitches in five innings. Fans gobble up playoff ticket strips and buy packages for 2019.
October 4 – Citi Field is packed for Game 1 of the NLDS. A group calling themselves Mets Fans United has bought out the entire Left Field Promenade and fill the section in matching t-shirts. Matt Harvey does not have it today as the Mets lose game 1 to the Dodgers.
October 8 – Down two games to one, Matt Harvey is the Mets’ last hope. David Wright homers in the 5th to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. Harvey is as sharp as he has been all season and holds that 1-0 lead into the 9th inning in Los Angeles. With two out Justin Turner hits a ground ball to second base, but Murph makes a bad throw and Gonzalez can’t catch it. Turner winds up on second. The Dodgers’ Jose Reyes, batting .390 since joining Los Angeles, hits a triple and is quite smiley as he does a stand up slide on third base. Callaway goes to the mound but is talked out of a pitching change by his ace. On the next pitch, Reyes steals home and the Mets are eliminated.
November 15 – Matt Harvey wins the National League Cy Young Award.
December 9 – at the Winter Meetings, the Yankees announce they have signed Free Agent Matt Harvey. Daniel Murphy signs with the Baltimore Orioles. Fans are irate that GM Omar Minaya isn’t doing anything and should never have let Reyes go to the Dodgers and begin threatening to boycott the Wilpons. A local blogger reminds everyone that nobody said Wilpons from August until October and is told he is a shill.
