Hi.
Despite my admitted cheapness, I actually subscribed to the Athletic as I like what they are up to and wanted to support it (and they had a decent discount going that day.)
Today Marc Carig has a piece where he says hello, and there is now an Athletic New York page that wasn’t there the last time I looked. No word yet on a Mets person, although it would not surprise me if that is in the works (the walrus was Paul). I can quote Adam Rubin who when asked if he is joining he tweeted “not that I’m aware” so we have to wait for the return of Rubin which may never come (sniff).
Anyway, I’m not sure what the etiquette of commenting on a paywall site is. Hypothetically if the Mets guy wrote a piece saying “here’s what Matt Harvey had for breakfast” – can I comment on it? Can I just tell you it was corn flakes? Would that be uncool? Is it cool if I don’t mention the whole reveal and I include a link? I may reach out to those guys and find out.
Anyway, you should subscribe and support good content. After the disaster that was the Mets Beat in 2017, I hope someone finds a path to doing interesting stories.
(wow I didn’t even finish this post and I see Mike Vorkunov joined up to cover the Knicks. I wonder if The Athletic has any room for some lame jokes and posts about caps. Let me call my agent…)
