Well, we all survived the great Facebook Experiment. I don’t think anyone truly liked it, and we all had our varying degrees of dealing with it, what are you gonna do, and the theme of 2018 so far: Sucks To Be You.
At first the experience looked like this. A giant-ass score sidebar and a big box at the top. Sucked.
Then they discovered score bug technology and it was better.
They went out of their way to show Todd Frazier and Phillies Guy fraternizing, which as you know is against MLB Rule 4.06, a stupid rule but MLB’s not mine.
Then this happened which led to what I thought was my best line of the day – if we want dumb ass comments during the game we’ll follow @metspolice on twitter.
Other thoughts –
I need to use my computer as a computer during the daytime.
I need to use my phone as a phone during business hours (some suggested I sling the game from my phone to my TV)
My Apple TV (older model) doesn’t have Facebook.
My Roku doesn’t have Facebook.
I have a nice 60 inch HDTV which I couldn’t use, see the above there or four points.
I hated the Alexa Filler. I think this was all a conspiracy to make me miss commercials.
I found it weird to sit through a 2 minute commercial break and then have no commercials. Perhaps there is a Pace of Play opportunity here. Someone pointed out radio has commercials. Maybe for 2019 MLB could tell the radio affiliates – hey that game we have on April 4th, you only get :60 not 2 minutes between innings deal with it. Radio seems able to adjust to on-the-fly-ish Sunday Night Baseball breaks and longer playoff breaks, I bet if we gave them warning that once a year they’d have fewer minutes they could figure it out. I know on WOR for the 10 minutes I listened I heard a ton of promos, so they weren’t busting at the seams with commercial sales.
How could anyone sit through the endless stream of comments – this point is coming from someone who tweets 5 times a minute during games – but for me the comments were way too much.
There can’t be any humans who like seeing the hearts and likes upstream thing, can there?
Gary, Keith, Ron, Howie, Josh and Wayne don’t make enough money. You hear someone else do a game and it’s awful. Even the 7th 8th and 9th guys in the YES booth are better than what we got today. I liked Scott Braun in the Mets booth last year but I feel like he got dragged down in today’s combo. Don’t forget, even the great Howie Rose wasn’t the great Howie Rose when saddled with Fran.
I hope this never happens again.
