On BPAttireGate and MLB’s casualness toward uniform policy in 2018

OK why not. It’s a nice Sunday morning, and I’m enjoying my Sunday Bagels & Bacon with an iced coffee and I already got my exercise in…so I shall comment on

BATTING PRACTICE ATTIRE GATE

Apparently announcer Joe Simpson made some comments about how the Dodgers were dressed during BP.   Over on Uni Watch, Paul Lukas doesn’t think its a big deal.

I’ve always been a big “how you carry yourself” kind of guy.  Now I am from the generation that thinks ties are insane, and I thin I am a pretty casual person – but I do know when to Suit Up.

This season I’ve really noticed a casualness in the dugout…

I mean look at that….that’s a lot of guys NOT in uniform.  As I have pointed out before, it’s not MY rule..let’s take a look at the 2018 CBA.

As for BP…I do not know what attire the players were wearing.  I am not a lawyer, but as long as the players were wearing Club-issued apparel etc, they were fine.  Baseball can decide if that’s the look they want or not, but it does not appear to be in violation of any rule.  If I ran the sport I’d have my players look professional, but it appears to me the players were fine – unless they were wearing Van Halen shirts or something.

Now read that second part of where I highlighted – ALL PLAYERS including you Thor and you other Mets, including those who are not playing, ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR UNIFORMS.  The policy even goes out of its way to mention UNIFORM TOP(S).

So a clear violation.  Over and over.  Every game.

So this comes back to you CBO Joe Torre…

For all I know, Mr. Torre did give the Mets warnings.  Maybe a first warning, second warning, 45th warning.  I don’t know.

What I do know is that the game looks sloppy this season.

I’m with you Mr. Simpson, let’s look like we’re here to play the game.  It’s the same speech coaches give the 8 year olds.  Look the part.
