METS AND TAIWAN TOURISM BUREAU ANNOUNCE DETAILS FOR THE 14TH ANNUAL TAIWAN HERITAGE DAY

 

Mets to Host Taiwan Heritage Day on Sunday, August 26 at Citi Field

 

FLUSHING, N.Y., August 23, 2018 – The New York Mets and Taiwan Tourism Bureau will host the 14th annual Taiwan Heritage Day on Sunday, August 26 at Citi Field when the Mets host the Washington Nationals at 1:10 p.m.

 

Pre-game performances start at 11:30 a.m. in the Mets plaza. Ming Hwa Yuan Arts and Culture Group, one of the most famous and organized Taiwanese opera troupes will perform its famous “The Legend of Eight Immortals.” The group was established by Mr. Chen Ming-Ji in 1929 and has 90 years of history. Taiwanese mascot “Oh Bear” will appear and interact with Mr. & Mrs. Met and fans throughout the game. Taiwan’s Ambassador Stanley Kao will receive the Spirit Award for his dedication between Taiwan and the United States. Taiwan’s first Nobel Prize laureate, Dr. Yuan-Tseh Lee will throw out the first pitch. Dr. Lee won his Nobel Prize award in Chemistry in 1986 along with the Hungarian-Canadian Dr. John C. Polanyi and American Dr. Dudley R. Herschbach. He served as the President of the Academia Sinica in Taiwan between 1994 and 2006 and was also elected head of the International Council of Science in 2011 and currently serves as a Senior Advisor to the President of Taiwan.

 

The partnership with Taiwan Tourism Bureau includes a presenting sponsor of the Mets Free Shirt Friday on August 24 where all fans in attendance will receive a shirt. Festivities also includes in-game “Taiwan Baseball Trivia”, led by Mets Hall of Famer John Franco, along with Mookie Wilson and Tim Teufel appearing on Citi Vision to interact with fans throughout the season.
