Mets Police Morning Laziness: let’s talk about the Whalers

SLACKISH REACTION:  There is zero Mets news, so let’s talk about the Whalers.

ICYMI the Carolina Hurricanes played as the Whalers last night.

The Whalers are fascinating.  The idea that there was even a team in Hartford sorta recent is astounding.  I have versions of the EA NHL hockey game that have the Whalers as an actual team you can play – I have that first one, which you’d retroactively call “NHL 92” now.

Over the years when you could create a franchise but had to take one out to keep the league balanced, it would be the Hurricanes I would get rid of.

In NHL 17 I made the Whalers, and I think that year you could just expand.   In NHL 18, which I am playing now (18 not 19), you can expand but I chose to make the San Diego Neptunes.  I also play as the San Diego Sharks in the NBA.  I either have a SD fetish or it’s a pretty cool city not to have sports teams.

Anyway, this happened…

There seems to be some discussion about whether it was cool or insulting. I’ll lean on the cool side as it’s not like the Whalers are ever coming back. The NHL could have 50 teams and there won’t be one in Hartford.

And it’s not like the Mets would ever dress up like a team that left…

Oh wait, they did!  And it was cool.  So I am on Team Cool when it comes to the Whalers.
