Link: City signs Willets Point letter of intent

I know (because I see the stats) most of you gloss over this topic but I’m staying on this horse.

The article to which I link goes on to say that they’ll decide in “roughly a year.”  Citi Field opened in 2009.  How long does it take to get anything done in this city?

The de Blasio administration signed a letter of intent Thursday with a joint venture between the Related Cos. and Sterling Equities. The pact lays out a timeline for the development team to hash out the details on two potential scenarios drafted by a community task force for 17 acres to the east of Citi Field in Queens. One of the scenarios includes a hotel and soccer stadium, while the other is more traditional, presenting a mix focusing on housing and retail.

My POV is that to build a soccer stadium for a USL team (not an MLS team, a USL team) is a boondoggle’s boondoggle.  Who is going to go check out a Queens Exclesiorpon soccer team when there are two MLS teams in the area?  That’s insane.  Don’t do that.

Also, this article shockingly DOES mention affordable housing!

Under an agreement the city reached with Related and Sterling last year, the developers are already building a mixed-use project including 1,100-units of affordable housing on six acres of land.

Imagine that!  Let me know when the affordable housing opens.  And the new public school.  And the park.

Also keep in mind that owning a baseball team is not the real business the Wilpons are in.  That’s just the thing that gets you into Elite New York meetings that you and I don’t get invited to.
