One of my favorite baseball promotions returns, the Copa de la Diversion, which is a great example of doing something fun without being unimaginative like “Los Mets” and hopefully not straying into some awkward territory like the well discussed Mr. O’Met caps.
The Cyclones will return as the Jefes…
We’ve lost the Reyes de Plata (Las Vegas) to someone else, and Syracuse doesn’t seem to be taking part (Stupid Cheap Wilpons!!) nor does Binghamton. But the Fireflies are…
To celebrate South Carolina’s multi-ethnic LatinX population, Columbia adopted the universally beloved “Chicharrones” identity. The multi-faceted, translatable pork dish, traditionally featuring pork belly or rinds, reaches across cultural lines to create a universally sought-after dietary staple. Chicharrones promote community gathering and experience sharing, foundations upon which the Fireflies are built. (via MiLB.com)
Eh, I am not feeling these. I like most of the Copa designs, but this one doesn’t do it for me. Maybe that letting will look good on a jersey once we see one…but…meh. Sorry Chicharrones.
As I said, I love the Copa and it just shows what a wasted opportunity Los Mets has been. I would love to see the Mets do something like this…or at least sorta try and do something like a N U E V A Y O R K jersey at home, akin to the Boston Strong jerseys the Red Sox do once a year.
When I have more time I will dive in on the full collection (been a lonnnng day and I am falling asleep) but I do want to share on design with you in light of recent discussions.
Viñeros de Tri-City. Located within the heart of Washington wine country, Tri-City aimed to honor and welcome the hard-working migrant agricultural workers for their profound impact on the region’s wine industry through its “Viñeros” moniker. (milb.com)
This is their cap.

Sources tell me @mediagoon is presently on 72 minor league websites buying caps. Other sources tell me a local fan apparel merchant loves that last one. My sources are sometimes wrong.
