#WWMDS: The Yankees have not been to the World Series this decade

Welcome to a new recurring segment called #WWMDS.

#WWMDS stands for When Will Manfred Do Something?

The inspiration for #WWMDS comes from the worst article on the internet in 2018 (in my opinion, and I wrote some pretty poor ones myself) which was when Deadspin’s David J. Roth asked when MLB would take the Mets away form the Wilpons.  Google it, I’m not linking to that trash.

Since then, I have asked almost daily on twitter When Will Manfred Do Something….about the Yankees.

You see, the Yankees are the Portugal of MLB.  Sure, Portugal used to have an awesome navy.  That doesn’t matter in 2019.

The Yankees of 2019 HAVE NOT BEEN IN THE WORLD SERIES THIS DECADE.  So while Roth is wondering when baseball is going to seize the Market One Mets from their owners, it makes me wonder when MLB will seize the Yankees from their owners that have not been in a World Series since Saint George, the kindly old man who just wanted to win, passed away.  They’ve won NOTHING.

The Mets?  Signing players left and right, and even played in a World Series in recent memory.  There are 10 year old kids who have no idea what a Yankees WS would look like.  Manfred has to do something, and the Yankees seem to realize it….Jared Diamond has the story in the WSJ.

(George) Steinbrenner built the Yankees into a powerhouse by leveraging his market’s immense financial might to gain every conceivable advantage over his competitors. When Hal Steinbrenner assumed control of the organization from his father in 2008, he stepped into a completely different paradigm, one specifically designed to prevent the Yankees from asserting their economic superiority.

And for that, they can largely blame themselves.

Stupid cheap Steinbrenners.  When will Manfred do something?  I’ll be watching as the season progresses.
