Wait, the 1985 Mets could have had Seaver for Terry Blocker but Davey……??????

Wait, I was around in 1985.  I do not remember this AT ALL.

The Mets could have had Seaver back for Terry Blocker?

‘Tom’s a legend, and I could use him for the stretch run, but when I was told he had another year on his contract, I was immediately turned off to the idea because he would push one of my four young starters, Rick Aguilera or Sid Fernandez, out of the rotation next year, and that would be unacceptable to me.

, ”I’m going to make sure nothing gets in the way of our building a dominant club for years to come.”

And so Seaver didn’t join the Mets, who will never know if he might have made the difference in the National League East last season.  (Via NY Times Archives, from 1985.)

Terry Blocker batted .067 for the Mets.   Even Todd Frazier is twice as good.
