Are the Mets putting fans in Citi Field in danger tonight?

ICYMI earlier today the Mets announced a ban on backpacks which I commented on in a separate post.

My question tonight is….ARE THE METS PUTTING FANS IN CITI FIELD IN DANGER TONIGHT?

Tonight, potential evildoers can bring backpacks into Citi Field.  Whatever the Mets are worried about on May 20th surely could happen tonight.

Why in the name of safety would the Mets knowingly allow in threatening backpacks tonight?

Some more questions –

When did the Mets learn about the threat?  Did they find out this morning and immediately adjust their safety procedures?  That would be good, although it doesn’t explain the 10 day dangerous gap.

If they did not learn about it three seconds before announcing it, how long have they known?  Why did they wait to warn us?  And again – why a ten day dangerous gap?

Why did the Mets wait three months after the Nationals banned backpacks?  Is MLB Aware of a threat?  Are the Nationals just better versed in security trends?

I will also continue to ask why the Mets do not address the potential danger of having thousands of people on long lines outside the security perimeter waiting for bobbleheads?   Why not hand out bobbleheads on the way out?  Why not make one for everyone?   Why is there no protection from backpacks while I’m on that line.

Does anyone have the stats on how many stabbings/shootings/incidents there have been at Citi Field related to items smuggled in via backpack?

Does anyone have similar numbers about alcohol related incidents in the stands?

I don’t think this is some sort of conspiracy where the Mets want to make money off storage lockers (themselves potentially dangerous, notice they have been eliminated from airports).  They must be reacting to something – whether an actual threat, or possibly some lawyer pointing out they could potentially be on the hook should The Joker release laughing gas on Shea Bridge.  The Joker would of course only be able to get said gas into the stadium via backpack.

But all that comes back to the ten day gap.  It’s either a threat or it’s not.  And if it is, then letting backpacks in this homestead is unnecessarily reckless.
