Mets Police Morning Laziness: You’ve got to know when to fold them

SLACKISH REACTION:  Maybe we blame Keith Hernandez for selling the Fake Pennant Race on TV.  I warned you that the Fake Pennant Race scared me.  I bet Jeff was home watching TV and started to believe the nonsense Keith was selling and ignoring the Gary part.

Then by late afternoon we had the manager talking about the Fake Pennant Race.

So the GM went out and got the Pitching Guru more pitching.   The pitching Guru forgets that he was handed The Five Aces and has accomplished nothing with them.

And now, with the future not mortgaged enough, Wags has gone and made sure the cupboard is bare.  Oh the Mets are in WIN NOW mode….they have to, because the 2020s are going to be a very ugly decade in Queens when the Mets have no farm system and the only way to rebuild is by spending money.   A very very ugly decade, but that won’t be Wags problem and it won’t be Mickey’s problem.  The former will be back at CAA and the latter will be someone ‘s pitching coach.  And you and I will be here talking about another lost season.

Let’s check the Wild Card Standings!

Let’s break those down for the stupid.   See the 6?   See the .476 part?  See the teams above you?

And let’s say you’re right, and I am wrong.  Remember the 2016 post-season?  There was one, did you forget?  A one game loss and out.

Stroman has his own t-shirt company!

If the Mets are trying to contend soon—and trading for a pitcher who can be a free agent in a year and a half would indicate that they are—it sure seems like they’d be better off keeping Syndergaard, rather than trying to sell low on him when he’s pitching poorly. Swapping out Stroman for Syndergaard doesn’t make a ton of sense from a purely by-the-numbers perspective. It makes less sense from an optics standpoint. Syndergaard is a franchise cornerstone, a hugely famous and popular player among fans, locally and nationally. Syndergaard is the kind of player a GM should be building around, not the guy he swaps out just to shake things up. (via The Ringer)
