Gil Must Go: if Koosman is shaky the 1969 Mets are doomed

I actually feel bad for Gil Hodges.  He’s doing the right things now and nothing is working.  Tonight he wisely tried brining Jerry Koosman back on short rest after Jerry’s bizarrely bad and short outing the other day – and still no luck.

Jerry was bad again.  3 runs in 6 innings.  I know we all have this fantasy that we are going to catch the Cubs, but if we’re going to have to rely on Seaver to carry the load, well good luck to us all.  The Cubs are not one of those pushover expansion teams Tom.

Also why is Gliding Ed Charles even on this team?  He is batting .194.  Come on Gil.

The Mets are still 5 back, but they do have a nice 5.5 game lead over the Pirates, so this second place finish will really be something to build on in the future.  Great season.
