Think about it. What does The Agent In Charge really want? Someone who will do what he says.
The media loves Gelbs and would be nice to him. The players love Gelbs and would be nice to him. All Gelbs has to do is get the printout from the analytics department and write the names in the lineup card. Then he takes some questions from Justine Ward, Howie Rose and whatever is left of the beat. Sit in a dugout for three hours while the game manages itself….repeat.
This is actually not the worst idea and it’s definitely out of the box. But will Steve Gelbs manage the Mets? No.
