Thought exercise: could a 40 game MLB season work? I say yes…proof…

I started pondering how many games one needs to make a baseball season.   My mind went to “40 games” and I punched in Standings After August 15, 2019 to see what it might look like.

Don’t worry about the particulars of who finished where, let’s just look at the spread…two divisions as a sample.

Now obviously the numbers are uneven, some teams played like 43 games…but close enough for the discussion.

I’m just looking at the GB column, and it does appear that there is enough time for teams to spread out given 40 games.   So such a schedule, if things get drastic, could work.

And if 40 works….60 or 80 or 100 would work.

As a side thought…some of the Awards could get weird, especially on the Cy Young.  An SP might get 9 starts.  Could 7-2 win the CYA?  Hey, why not?

That’s all.  End of my conclusion.  @mediagoon already sent me something suggesting MLB might be out until end of July…which is even further than I floated in this morning’s Morning Laziness.
