Over 3,000 hits. More than 750 home runs. The all-time leader in RBIs. And a lifetime batting average of .305
For almost 20 years Hank Aaron was a monster of consistency at the plate. Unlike other sluggers, he never hit more than 50 home runs in a season (he topped out at 47) – but he hit 30 or more 15 times. He had eleven 100+ RBI seasons.
But the thing I found amazing was that he received MVP votes in 19 straight years. From 1955 to 1973 his name appeared on at least one MVP ballot.
Hank Aaron, welcome to the Hall of Immortals.
BTW, if you are a baseball fan and have not read Hank Aaron’s autobiography I Had a Hammer I highly recommend you get yourself a copy. Unlike many most books by athletes, there is a depth in his narrative.
