Happy Harvey Day. Well it’s always Harvey Day on MLB The Show.
Actually let’s talk about The Show for a minute. When I’m not playing as the Ducks, I play Diamond Dynasty. For people not hip to the game, there are several modes. You can play a franchise (see Ducks or you could just be the Mets if you want), career mode, online against friends or Diamond Dynasty in which your adventures get you points. With the points you buy packs of cards and if you pull a player you can add him to your team.
What’s great is that those players aren’t just current players, but also includes HOFers and random interesting guys….like Dave Kingman.
My Diamond Dynasty team, the Los Angeles Cyclones, features 1968 Seaver, Willie Mays and Kingman from the Mets, and a young Mickey Mantle.
There’s also a showdown mode where you can gamble points to win more points and packs….in that mode they will really whip out the historical players – this weekend a lot of Al Kaline…and also some Roy Oswalt and Joe Carter.
So it’s a really really great way to incorporate the game’s history. And the Diamond Dynasty games are three innings (your SP tends to gas at the end of the 2nd) which moves things along. Plus, Gelbs is not in the game, so it’s never boring.
OK let’s check in on The Dark Knight. Today we have a great matchup…
The Ducks have a 9 game lead, and Jeff McNeil is back from the IL.
Matt gives up two in the first and another in the second, and we get a visit from the pitching coach.
And this guy McNeil isn’t helping anything. His range at second seems poor and he made another error. It’s like he’s a net negative.
5ip 9h 5r 3er 8k
5 innings, 9 hits, 5 runs, 3 earned (see error) 8ks and and an awful 4 hours and three minutes. Ducks lose 12-6.
