Baseball Hall of Immortals – Inductee #21 : Eddie Collins

Eddie CollinsOne of the greatest players of the Deadball Era (pre-Babe Ruth), Eddie Collins was a threat both at the plate and in the field.  A second baseman for the Philadelphia Athletics (too bad they moved) and Chicago White Sox, Collins was given the nickname Cocky not only because he was such a good player (and knew it), but also because he was one of the smartest players in the game, having graduated from Columbia University.

Collins may be best known as the leader of the “good” White Sox players in 1919.  While 8 of his teammates were involved to varying degrees in the scandal to throw the World Series, Collins stayed clean (though his performance in the Series was not great).

Collins ended his career with over 3,300 hits and 700+ stolen bases.  He is definitely an Immortal
