Oh I see there’s a story going around. As it goes, Matt Harvey “reached out” to the Mets – now did Matt do this, or Boras, or someone at Boras…who cares, this is ridiculous….and the Mets will “consider” it.
Consider. One of those great Sandy Alderson terms.
I recently have considered….
- ending the blog. I decided not to.
- going to Iceland again. I have no actual plans to do so.
- taking my car into the shop tomorrow. I did not like the 3;30 appointment.
So yeah we can “consider” all sorts of things. But let me share a number with you.
7.09
That was Matt’s ERA in 2019.
Why would the Mets want a guy with a 7.09 ERA who brings a circus with him?
In normal times, maybe you might consider a circus because you can sell tickets. This year you can’t sell tickets.
If it’s a 48 game sprint you don’t need to have a million starters. You write down 1-2-3-4-5 on a calendar and you make sure deGrom stays on turn, and if an off-day lands where the 1 should be, then you bump the next guy and you let Jake start.
NOBODY saw more Matt Harvey than I did last year. I enjoyed doing my recaps. And I am telling you – HE HAD NOTHING.
He’s sort of OK when nobody is on, if you play in a big ballpark…..but once someone gets on base, watch out.
He didn’t even make the playoff roster for his AAA team. Now I am supposed to believe he’s coming back to the Mets? No.
Now, as some have accused me, I would be the first to welcome him back. Nothing moves traffic like Matt Harvey. I’d love to have the FULL CIRUCS back. He should show up in a sports car, shirtless, with two models and a crocodile, and he should park in Pete Alonso’s parking spot. Bring all the madness. He should say things like “I always felt I was a better pitcher than Jake.” I want full chaos.
But it’s not going to happen, no matter how many hours you need to kill on the radio, so stop.
