Baseball Hall of Immortals – Inductee #47:  Mariano Rivera

The greatest reliever in baseball history is the 47th inductee into the Hall of Immortals.

No closer has ever been as dominant for as long as Mariano Rivera.  Over his 19 seasons he averaged 39 saves a season (even though he wasn’t a closer til his 3rd year). The numbers speak for themselves:

  • 652 saves
  • 2.21 ERA
  • 8.2 Ks per 9 IP
  • 89.1% save percent

That’s just the regular season.  Once the postseason started he became superhuman.  In 96 games and 141 IP Rivera went 8-1 with 42 saves and an ERA of 0.70.

It’sa no-brainer that Mariano Rivera is an Immortal.
