Pete Alonso benched again! Team HR leader Dom Smith at 1B!

My friends the Mets sent me some notes!

RHP Franklyn Kilome was recalled from the team’s Alternate Training Site.

INF Brian Dozier was designated for assignment.

Dominic Smith has homered in four consecutive games for the first time in his career…Pete Alonso was the last Met to homer in four straight games (August 5-9, 2019)…The regular season club record is five consecutive games with a home run, accomplished by Richard Hidalgo from July 1-5, 2004…Daniel Murphy swatted a home run in six consecutive post-season games, October 13-21, 2015 (NLDS Game 4 – NLCS Game 4).

Smith leads the Mets with six home runs and 16 RBI…He is tied for fifth in the NL and tied for ninth in the majors in home runs and tied for sixth in the NL in RBI…He has 12 extra-base hits in 50 at-bats this season and sports a 1.163 OPS…In his last nine games, Smith is hitting .343 (12-35) with six doubles, five homers, 11 RBI and seven runs scored…11 of his last 12 hits have been for extra bases…Smith hit 11 home runs in 177 at-bats last year.

Today’s SP is my favorite Met Rick Porcello.

LAST TIME OUT: Porcello today makes his fifth start of the season…In his last start, threw 6.0 innings and allowed two runs, earned…Gave up a season-high eight hits on August 11 in the Mets’ 2-1 loss to the Nationals at Citi Field…Walked none and struck out five batters..Suffered his second loss of the season…Was his second-straight quality start and his second consecutive outing in which he did not walk a batter.

VS. PHILLIES: Porcello will be making his seventh career start vs. the Phils…He has not yielded more than five hits or three runs in any of his last three starts against the club…Faced Philadelphia twice last season, going 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA (five earned runs/10.0 innings)…He’s allowed three runs or fewer in all but one of his six career starts against Philly…At Citizens Bank Park, he’s 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA (six earned runs/18.0 innings).

Today, the Mets join a league- wide centennial celebration of the founding of the Negro Leagues…The focus of the 100th anniversary commemoration will be to honor the legacy of the men and women who contributed to the legacy of the Negro Leagues reflected in past & present of MLB as well as immortalized at the renowned Negro Leagues Baseball Museum…All MLB players, managers, coaches and umpires will wear a symbolic Negro Leagues 100th anniversary logo patch during games…The logo, a derivative of the official logo created by the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, also will be featured on base jewels and lineup cards.  BUT READ THIS.
