My friends the Mets sent me some notes which I shall share.
Dominic Smith leads the Mets with six home runs, 10 doubles and 21 RBI…He is tied for sixth in the majors and tied for second in the NL in doubles, tied for seventh in the NL in RBI, tied for 10th in the majors and tied for sixth in the NL in extra-base hits…He has 16 extra-base hits in 69 at-bats this season and sports a 1.161 OPS…Smith hit 11 home runs in 177 at-bats last year…
Time out Mets, let’s not gloss over this. Let’s see 11/177 is .062. Pete had 597 ABs last year. Lets multiply 597 by .062 and we get 37.
Dom will hit like 37 HRs if you let him play. With a better glove and better average. I bet a dollar Pete never hits 37 again. FLAG IT. SCREENSHOT IT. NEVER HITS 37 AGAIN!!!!!!!
Where was I….
…He has already matched his 2019 season with 10 doubles...His career- high is 11 doubles, which he accomplished in 143 AB in 2018…Dom recorded 25 RBI in 2019 and a career-high 26 RBI in 167 at-bats in 2017.
Smith is four PA shy of being a qualified hitter…If he did qualify, both his .739 SLG and his 1.161 OPS would lead the majors. However, he slept late once two years ago and the Mets are teaching him a lesson!
Meanwhile, Pete Alonso | INF | .232, 5 HR, 13 RBI, 0 SB. The Mets did not mention 32Ks in 119 Plate Appearances (.268 Kaverage a new term I just made up that I like.) By the way can we compare 5HRs in 99 ABs…I don’t need the calculator…that’s like 5%…lets give him 600 ABs….He would hit 30 HRs which is fewer than Dom’s 37. Do you follow yet?
DID ANYONE KNOW ABOUT THIS? WHY DIDN’T ANYONE BRING UP IN THE OFF-SEASON THAT DOM SMITH IS BETTER THAN PETE ALONSO? WHY DIDN’T ANY…hold on I am being passed a note. Says here I brought it up on twitter like every day…oh that’s right….
Dominic Smith has reached base safely in a career-best 15 straight games…He is batting .370 (20-54) in that span with nine runs, 10 doubles, five home runs, 16 RBI, a .435 OBP and a .833 SLG…This includes a career-high 10 game hitting streak…In the streak that started on August 12, Smith is batting .444 (16-36) with eight runs, seven doubles, four home runs, 13 RBI, five walks, a .524 OBP and a .972 SLG.
The Mets dropped both games of a doubleheader against the Marlins yesterday…The Mets have lost two straight after winning three-in-a- row…New York has not scored a run in their last 14 innings…Well that’s not good….The Mets are in the midst of a stretch of 23 consecutive games against the NL East…The team owns a 10-14 record against the division this year…Following this series, the Mets will play five games against the Yankees in The Bronx…and Jacob deGrom will not pitch in any of them because he had a stiff eck two weeks ago but he’s fine really….14 of the team’s next 16 games will be played in New York.
Prior to today’s game, the Mets optioned catcher Patrick Mazeika to the team’s Alternate Training Site.
Juan Lagares who wore #87 yesterday has switched to #15, neither of which is #12. This is costing @mediagoon a lot in jerseys. Replicas are like $149 now yo.
