RHP Ariel Jurado has been recalled from the team’s Alternate Training Site. Apparently he was on the Mets at some point! This will mark Jurado’s second stint with the club; however, he has yet to make an appearance. I need to call @mediagoon and tell him that he already has a jersey.
RHP Hunter Strickland was apparently on the Mets and has been designated for assignment.
INF Eduardo Núñez, oh yeah him, has been transferred to the 45-Day Injured List.
The Mets made a series of stupid trades yesterday…The team acquired infielder Lyin’ Todd Frazier from the Texas Rangers for a player-to-be-named-later… Frazier is batting .241/.322/.380 with 11 runs, seven doubles, one triple, two home runs and seven RBI in 31 games this season…Frazier spent two years with the Mets from 2018-19 and appeared in 248 games with the club, batting .233/.316/.418… He once met Derek Jeter….he admitted cheating in a baseball game….he played in the Little League World Series. And he has a lot of bats. On paper he should be someone that Mets fans really like, but somehow isn’t.
The Mets acquired catcher Robinson Chirinos and cash considerations from the Rangers for a player-to-be-named-later…He owns a career slash line of .231/.326/.432 with 251 runs, 98 doubles, four triples, 85 home runs, 264 RBI and a .758 OPS over 590 career games…and those are the numbers the Mets are using to make him look good!
The Mets acquired RHP Miguel Castro from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for LHP Kevin Smith and player-to-be-named- later or cash considerations…Castro appeared in 16 games for the Orioles this season and is 1-0 with a 4.02 ERA (seven earned runs/15.2 innings) with five walks and 24 strikeouts. Smith is expected to go 18-5 sometime in the next few seasons so Mets fans can bring this up endlessly for decades despite having never heard of him before 3:58pm on Monday.
Ariel Jurado will be the 10th player to start a game for the Mets this year…This will surpass the total number of starters that the Mets used in 2019… The franchise record for starters used in a season is 20 set by the 1967 Mets… Entering the day, the Braves, Marlins, Rays and Red Sox have had 11 players start a game, the most in the majors…The last time the Mets had more players start a game in the season was in 2018, when they had 12 pitchers start.
