The New York Mets continue to mourn the loss of Tom Seaver, “The Franchise”…Beginning tonight, the Mets will honor with a uniform patch “41” that will be worn on the right jersey sleeve for the remainder of the year. THIS NEEDS TO IMMEDIATELY BE AMENDED TO “AND NEXT YEAR.” HIS NICKNAME WAS THE FRANCHISE HE DESERVES MORE THAT 22 OR SO GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..
I haven’t seen the design yet. Will share when I do.
During yesterday’s game, each member of the Mets put dirt on the right knee of his leg, symbolic of Tom Seaver’s drop and drive delivery…In remembrance of Seaver, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo ordered all flags at New York Mets ballparks in the state (Citi Field, NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, MCU Park in Brooklyn and NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse) to fly at half-staff…In June of last year, the Mets and the City of New York renamed the street between Northern Blvd. and Roosevelt Ave. (formerly 126th St.) to Seaver Way and changed the address of Citi Field to 41 Seaver Way…During the ceremony, the team also announced that they would honor’s Seaver’s legacy with a statue that will be displayed near the Home Run Apple in front of Citi Field…Seaver’s #41 was the first player number retired by the organization in 1988.
RHP Erasmo Ramírez has been selected from the team’s Alternate Training Site.
The Mets will play Dom Smith at 1B tonight and Pete Alonso at DH finally realizing that Dom is the better defender.
RHP Zack Wheeler returns to Citi Field for the first time as a member of an opposing team…The Mets will pay tribute to Wheeler with a video tribute on Citi Vision at 7 p.m. tonight…Wheeler joined the Mets in 2013 and made 126 starts for the team, going 44-38 with a 3.77 ERA with 270 walks and 726 punchouts.
TOTAL DOM-INATION: Dominic Smith is batting .300/.381/.630 with 16 runs, 12 doubles, seven home runs, 26 RBI, 12 walks and a 1.011 OPS…He leads the Mets with 12 doubles and 26 RBI…He is tied for second in the NL and tied for seventh in the majors in doubles, tied for eighth in the NL and tied for 17th in MLB in RBI, tied for seventh in the NL and tied for 12th in the majors in extra-base hits..Dom recorded 25 RBI in 2019 and a career-high 26 RBI in 167 at-bats in 2017…He has already matched his career-high in RBI. Dom needs to homer twice tonight because it annoys me Pete leads the team.
Pete Alonso | INF | .209, 8 HR, 22 RBI, 0 SB
FOR PETE’S SAKE: Pete Alonso hit his first career walk-off home run, a two-run shot to lead off the 10th inning last night…It was the Mets’ second walk-off homer of the season and marked his third career walk-off RBI…Alonso now leads the team with eight homers… The home run was the 61st of his career…He is the fastest player in major league history to reach that mark (198 games).
THE TODDFATHER: Todd Frazier finished last night’s game going 3-5 with three runs, two doubles, a home run and an RBI…It marked the second time in his career that he collected three extra-base hits (other time was July 29 this season as a member of the Texas Rangers)…He owns a .738 OPS with 81 extra-base hits in 250 career games as a Met.
