Steve building Citi Field casino to ensure the interests of the community? WHAT?

Sportico reports (possibly paywalled)…

Steve Cohen… is in discussions with Las Vegas Sands Corp. about a possible casino next to Citi Field, according to multiple people familiar with the discussions.

“Steve thinks that Willets Point needs to be addressed long-term—it’s a mess,” said a Mets spokesperson, adding the team’s priority remains on filling open baseball positions. “He has been hearing lots of ideas, and the Mets want to be part of those conversations to ensure the interests of our fans and the local community are well represented.”

Oh PLEASE spare me the horse hockey Mets Spokesperson.  “to ensure the interests of our fans and the local community are well represented.” – then build the affordable housing and the schools.  Casinos prey on people and take their money and make the rich richer (unless you are an incompetent phony businessman who somehow bankrupts multiple casinos, but that’s a separate discussion).

How does a casino help the community?  Has Steve and The Mets Spokesperson driven a block off the ocean in Atlantic City?  How is that going?  How are Aqueduct and Yonkers helping the neighborhoods.  Give me a Falsono  break.

And what do we mean by “next to” Citi Field?  I sure hope we don’t mean the Park Land.  Because that’s not what parks are for.   Are we talking about across the street?  Don’t the Wilpons control that?

Sportico has the story.  It may or may not be paywalled depending on when you look at it.
