Should the Cardinals have protested Pete Alonso’s run based on Lindor assisting the runner?

Man do I wish Whitey Herzog was still around to stir things up….

Look at Lindor here.  He appears to be in the field of play.  Pete appears to not have scored yet.  I’m pretty sure you can’t place a player on the field of play in front of the catchers position while the play is still alive.

Here’s Lindor arguably assisting the runner.

I don’t think you’re allowed to do that.

If I am the Cardinals I protest the play.

I’m going to lose the argument and the umpires are going to tell me to get lost, but in the spirit of gamesmanship I would make everyone stand around for 5 minutes and get really mad at it.  Imagine how mad you are right now reading this.  Oh man would I get in Pete’s head.

Whitey would do it.

I would also question if the umpire is being forced out of position by out of control Mets players.

Per Rule 5.10(k) I would ask the umpire to ask these players to leave the field as the rules say they should confine themselves to the bench.  Unfortunately there is no harsher penalty other than a warning.

I miss you White Rat.  You knew how to stir it up.
