Remember the time the Mets didn’t trade Pete Alonso who would have brought a LOT back and didn’t sign Freddie Freeman to play first base? Seems like Freddie is a big Steve Cohen fan!
“I love what he’s doing,” Freeman told the New York Post. “He wants to win. He’s telling the fans, ‘I’m in this with you guys.’ He’s a fan of baseball, and he’s a fan of his team.”
“Why would you be upset? The guy wants to win,” he added. “Spend away. Why not? He’s telling his fans, ‘I’m with you.’ It’s excited the fan base to have an owner that wants to win as much as they do.”
It’s a shame Steve didn’t pick up the phone and sign Freddie when he had the chance.
Freddie had a WAR of 5.9 last year
Pete had a WAR of 4.4
You win that extra game and a half and you’re not losing to the Padres in the first round Steve.
And if you Pete fans want to argue my point here, you’re admitting that WAR is complete nonsense, so feel encouraged!

In other news, the new pitch clock is awesome. If anything, it’s too long. Can we cut it down to 8 seconds? And eliminate mound visits? And have pitching changes handled the way we do pinch hitters – managers don’t walk out and take the bat from the batter while another batter strolls in. And come in warm. You don’t get 8 practice swings. Be ready to play when you enter the game.
