Chris Rock.
He grew up in New York, always a plus. Mets fan, that always plays well with other Mets fans.
As a celebrity he would understand what his players are gong through.
He works dirty, so he will be able to help Vulgar Pete Alonso with his alternate takes on Let’s Go Mets!
The t-shirt crowd should be able to do something like “Rock Citi Field”
The newspapers can go with “Mets Rock Phillies” etc
We know Chris can handle the media, and he’s unflappable in a sudden crisis.
And best of all, imagine this…..the Mets just lost in the 9th. Steve Gelbs asks the manager, “Chris, how did it feel when Diaz gave up that home run?”
Now, imagine in your best Chris Rock head voice…
How did it FEEL?
How did it FEEEEEEL?
howdoyouthinkitfelt (said through clenched teeth)
Once again I will remind Uncle Steve that his brand and sport are dying. The game needs (get out your inner Rock voice again) EN-TER-TAINNNN-MENT.
Throw Chris $100 million (lunch money for Steve) and give him a solid bench coach. The bench coach can take over in 2025.
This is a no-brainer, but the Mets are likely just going to do a fake search to check some boxes and then announce Greg Counsell anyway.
Will Chris Rock manage the 2024 Mets? Sadly, no.
