Remember when the Mets tried a Nickelodeon Theme Park at Shea Stadium?

Remember when the Mets tried this nonsense?

The core attraction of the theme park will be the three-story Guts Extreme Baseball diamond, where kids will run out hits against a clock on base paths filled with wall climbs, nets, slides, swings, crawls and an elastic jungle.

There will be a “slime station” with green goo geysers, a video batting cage, a mess-oriented playland based on the “Wienerville” series and Stimpy’s Big Pitch, with a flying hairball, based on “The Ren & Stimpy Show.” A Comeback for Mr. Met

Returning in conjunction with Nickelodeon’s park will be Mr. Met, the team mascot, unseen at Shea for 20 years. The new Mr. Met has a puppeteer inside capable of manipulating his eyes, eyebrows and mouth.  (via NY Times, May 5 1994)

By June, the season would be following apart and the Times would be reporting this:

“Seems like they’re more concerned about building a nickelodeon than going out and signing somebody,” said Franco, referring to the children’s theme park the Mets are constructing beyond right field. ‘I Ain’t Too Happy’ (NY Times, June 22, 1994)
