Well, as the world’s foremost Matt Harvey expert I was quite disappointed by last night’s rain out because today I had BIG TIME FAMILY STUFF and there was absolutely positively no way I could do a Matt Harvey recap.
Fortunately for us all, our old pal @nycsporty agreed to back me up with some quality coverage. Thanks Nick…

The Orioles have spotted The Real Deal to a one run lead and away we go….
The leadoff guy doubles, Grandal strikes out (sit down son) but then Moncada (who?) walks and now the game looks like this!
And I think we all know how Matt feels about runners on base…
So what do you think happened? Abreu singles…
Didn’t take long for Harvey to give up the lead as he walks a batter & allows 2 more hits in the bottom of the first & the White Sox have tied the O’s at 1. #HarveyDay #Birdland #BALvsCWS pic.twitter.com/nvQ4Rd6tKA

OK not THAT bad, and on to the second!
Vaughn singles to lead off the inning (uh-oh) but have no fear, The Dark Knight Is Here and it’s a 1-2-3-4 inning.
Better 2nd inning for Harvey, after leadoff hit, puts White Sox down in order on 17 pitches with 2 k’s. 50 pitches so far, 1-1 after 2. #HarveyDay #Birdland #BALvsCWS

On to the third, and I think Nick has seen Harvey pitch before because he can see it coming just like I always do…
Oh boy, Harvey starts off the 3rd with 2 walks & now the pitching coach is coming out to have a chat as he’s on 62 pitches…. #HarveyDay #Birdland #BALvsCWS

and then Jose Abreu steps in…
Jose Abreu drives in 2 for the White Sox on a single to put them up on the O’s 3-1. #HarveyDay #Birdland #BALvsCWS pic.twitter.com/9sXf1QPsgj

Well, at least you can’t even see the netting.
Matt will settle in here with the bases empty and he strikes out Mercedes and then Jake Lamb steps in and OH NO….
Jake Lamb goes deep on Harvey to extend the White Sox lead to 5-1. #HarveyDay #Birdland #BALvsCWS pic.twitter.com/baDI4d4eIy

In the 4th, Nick Madrigal (who?) reaches on an error and here comes the manager….
Disgusted Matt Harvey walking off the field possibly for good after a rough 3rd inning allowing 4 runs & having thrown 86 pitches on the day through only 3 innings. #HarveyDay #Birdland #BALvsCWS pic.twitter.com/voW71ERQm5

And was that it? Did Matt Harvey’s career just end?
The Baltimore Sun does not sound hopeful.
“Got to get better in really all areas,” manager Brandon Hyde said.
Harvey, 32, was never expected to recapture the form that made him an All-Star starter and National League champion with the New York Mets, but the Orioles hoped he could be a serviceable innings provider behind John Means to stabilize what is otherwise a fresh-faced rotation. He seemed up to the task initially, but beginning with a four-inning outing in which he lowered his ERA to 3.60 because the quartet of runs he surrendered were unearned, he has failed to complete five innings in five straight starts. The Orioles have lost each, with Harvey’s ERA climbing to 6.84.
And what does Matt Harvey think about Matt Harvey?
“I feel good throwing every pitch, and things are really just not going our way, in general. I missed a couple pitches over the middle that really cost us and cost me today. The last two starts, I’ve felt like I’ve had much better stuff than I even had at the beginning of the season, so it’s just kind of one of those things that is extremely frustrating when you know you have good stuff, you’re just not really locating as well as you need to be and not keeping runs off the board.”
Oh wow, I actually feel bad for him. He thinks he’s almost good. You aren’t Matt. You are bad. And when the weather heats up more and more of those 385 fly outs are going to fly out of Camden Yards. This is only going to get worse Matt.
You can’t expect the Orioles to carry this Matt….
Matt Harvey’s past four starts:
4 1/3 IP, 7 ER
1 2/3 IP, 6 ER
4 2/3 IP, 5 ER
3+ IP, 5 ERHis ERA is 6.84. #Orioles

Unless the Orioles just don’t care and realize SOMEONE has to pitch on the way to 110 losses, so it might as well be Matt Harvey. Depending on how updated the standings I just googled are…the Orioles are 15.5 game out before Memorial Day, and on pace to win 53 games…so sure, maybe you do just let Matt Harvey pitch 4 innings every 5 days instead of paying someone else.
Matt got 9 outs on 86 pitches with pitch counts of 33, 17 and 36. Yikes!
3 innings, 5 runs all earned, 5 hits, 3 walks, SIX STRIKEOUTS BABY and a 3-6 record with an ERA of 6.84
It’s over Matty.
Chicago is a fun town. Hopefully TDK can find a nice burrito stand and wash away his sorrows in beans and cheese.
I’m disappointed I didn’t get to watch this as I think I had seen EVERY post-Mets start (maybe I missed one West Coast 10pm game and I didn’t catch all the bullpen appearances) so I have been very invested in this saga. I don’t want it to end! See you in 5 days? Someone’s gotta pitch…
