If this is the 2011 lineup get ready for another 500 season and 500 less season ticket holders .And about DW get your head out of your a** tired of him getting a pass with the fans
At least that lineup gave me a reason to watch. We all know that there is no way that the Mets will try to please their fan base by signing either Lee or Crawford. They will end up in the Bronx, and it will be another year of listening to how the Evil Empire does not go out and buy all of its players. I know it is hypocritical to say that, the Mets should spend and the other guys shouldn’t, the difference is that I just want to see if they are willing and/or able to. Not that it matters, if you were either of those guys and the Mets offered you more money than anyone else, would you want to play for this horribly run organization? If I were those guys, the Mets would have to offer me at least 25% more than anyone else to even consider it. And I am a Mets fan saying that.
With any luck, the Mets can trade Beltran and start the Captain in CF…
This team needs to clean house for a fresh start, the whole front office, etc. They need to rethink how they operate their baseball and business sides of the franchise. Is there any other “big market” franchsie less in touch with its customers? It is nice to see that the Mets will likely start 6 1/2 (Pagan is the half…left and came back) home grown players next year, but it is too late for Minaya, he is just as guilty of poor public relations as he is putting together a team of gutless pukes (to borrow a Mike Milbury statement…see his comments on Travis Green).
How is it that you can have a team that is so poor with the bases loaded, on both sides of the ball. Can R.A. Dickey pitch every day???? Or at least his brain…?
Come on now F Mart is not the answer should have traded him three years ago.And you can not win in any league with a second baseman that can not hit a lick especialy on this power starved Mets team

John, I understand what you are saying, but at least I do not have to see some other guys that are mailing it in. You want to try Nick Evens instead, fine. Hell, play Carter, bring up Lucas Duda or Corey Vaughn (I know, I know A-ball), the point is a young player gives me something to watch. 1992 was bad enough, why do I need a repeat of that? Why do I need a repeat of the late 70’s when M. Donald Idiot was running the franchise into the ground. At least with most of those players I have a chance to see something positive. ]
Sadly, it will take ownership to have a “George Young” moment before the franchsie returns. Where they hire a real baseball man, and leave him alone, just sign the checks. And I am not sure we are anywhere near that yet.
You can win with a middle infielder that does not hit much, if the guys you are paying to produce are doing so. They are not. Beltran, he has been back long enough to be better than this. Wright, will be back to being “Wright” when he realizes that RBI are the only thing that matters, and stops trying to jerk everything out of the park. There is nothing wrong with doubles & triples, they drive in a lot of runs. I can’t say anything about Reyes, because he is being Reyes…the guy that in six years as a major leaguer has never gotten any better than the day he first came up. Still tries to hit everything in the air, and refuses to take the time to learn how to bunt. How they have not forced him and his monster ego/senstive feeble mind to go to Rod Carew, and beg him to teach him how to bunt is beyond me. It is just another signal of how this organization has no idea how to win games.
I want to give Minaya credit for some of the things he has done right, Davis, Thole, Dickey, Niese, and a few others, but he has the top baseball man has so destroyed the organization, and worse the public perception of it, he has to go.
Next year, when Lee & Crawford are playing across town, (and while it counters my own argument, don’t you almost have to sign one of them, just to keep them away from the Bronx? As well as keep up the lie that Madoff did not affect the franchise.) they will be giving tickets away. And no one will take them. All we as Mets’ fans will get is more apologies, that losing is unacceptable, and that we have the “ability to spend money” if it is the right fit. Then after they say that Lee or Crawford are not the right fits, they will spend some more on back up catchers…pray every day that they find the second coming of R.A. Dickey. Then come mid-January when they are desperate for any sort of positive reinforcement, we will have the press conference announcing that they could not come to an agreement with Jerry Manuel on a contract (they don’t want to say he is being fired) and we have hired Wally Backman as our manager. They will pay him less than even the Pirates & Royals pay their managers, and say Wally is a man with a winning pedigree and he will lead us into battle…of course, it will be mid January, and he will have had no time to prepare or talk to his players about his game plan, and approach, but hey, why should that matter?
This organization is run like crap, and is totally paranoid & clueless at the same time. We all know they read and listen to every word that is said about them, and yet, they are amazingly ignorant about what their customers want. Want to know how they got suckered by Madoff, go ask the architect of Taxpayer Field…he suckered them into building a brand new stadium with obstructed view seats…how the hell is that possible if you are paying attention. How does David Howard and anyone else charged with building the stadium still have a job? How the hell did they build it so un-Mets friendly? I will skip the Fred really wants to own the Dodgers jokes.
It took them how long to put anyone in the “Mets Hall of Fame”? How is it that they still have not yet retired the numbers 17 & 31? Really?
Any real Mets’ fans knows that these are real questions and issues that need to be addressed by the team and never will be. Not in any timely fashion, anyway.
Chief, I know you are on the road right now, but I still apologize for the crazy tirade, but as I read the responses and watch the games, this is what goes through my head. Sadly it is not what goes through ownerships head. They know our feelings, but ultimately they do not give a crap as long as the money from SNY keep rolling in.
Mabye 25 years ago you could get away with no production out of second base but now the game has changed and that position now needs some power.Remember Beltran was out a whole year got to give him more then six weeks to get it back together
In 3 games vs the Phils AT HOME we will score 2 runs. This team has average skills and no heart. David Wright must hate CitiField. He averaged 30/112 for 4 years full time at Shea. He is now a 20/90 player. He will be about 31 when he hits free agency and has one shot at a long term contract and play for a winner. I think when we rebuild next year we will lose Reyes as well. I am rooting for the Nats to get hot so we can own last place. Keep buying those tickets, it will change LOLOLOL
