I only saw half of WilponTV before being called away by real job. It was hard to pull myself away.
While I was watching I thought Jeff was better than Fred but once I walked away the tweetosphere made it seem Fred was good. I thought he was close to losing his cool in the early going.
Apparently something was said about lowering ticket prices. That’s cool.
MetsBlog has some solid recaps of what went on today but over here we have a different tone. I wanna hear from my peeps.
So – what did you guys take away from this one?
Enough that I think they’re going to do some stuff right, at least have the shot at winning ilke they should in 2011. Doesn’t sound like they’ll trade Wright or Reyes, thankfully, and sounds like they’re pretty open to ideas about things going forward. Which is what I wanted. the 7 candidates for GM will have to sell them on things.
Sounds like they’ll lower prices again. Maybe a season plan discount. Don’t expect the cheapest seats to go down (don’t know why people expected that this year. they’re very “fair”) Maybe some more innovative plans and packages like you’ve suggested before.
Besides the Mets charging Highlanders prices for a Bisons [or sometimes Cyclones]experience, don’t look for too much to change too soon. The Dolans of National League baseball simply have forgotten how to act like winners, what with their cheesy promotions at the ballpark, continuing those promotions on their bland, flat SNY network, and not having a strong, consistent public relations attitude. These Coupons aren’t going to eat contracts, either. The Mets will be in NL East limbo for a couple of years … the future is now but the reality is 2013.
Heartened by prospect of cheaper tickets.
Frustrated by hearing the Wilpons first assert that they were taking full responsibility for what has happened, then wash their hands of everything by saying those were all purely Omar’s decisions. Their response to a question about how they’ll address the perception out there that the owners meddle too much boiled down to “We’ll tell the GM candidates that we don’t meddle.” That was a true chance to take responsibility, and they could have said something like this: “We don’t believe we have been meddling, but clearly that perception is an issue for this team. And so for the right GM, we are 100% open to agreeing on new structures and procedures to make sure our next GM feels comfortable.”
Disbelieving that the reason the Mets haven’t yet eaten Ollie’s contract is “Omar never brought us that option.”
I would take 2013
That Hojo at least wasn’t fired is the clue that we are still the fundamentally flawed club we always are and will be
What does Hojo do to retain a job.
Jerry should have resigned instead of just leaving without saying anything.
Surely he could not have expected an extension.
Who
I only heard the last 10 minutes or so, but Fred seemed sincere. Let’s all wait to see how the offseason goes before we start spouting gloom & doom.
Just watched the video above. I agree with Paul, Fred seemed sincere. He didn’t come across as nearly as aloof as some of us think he is. He truly seemed embarrassed and upset.
Jeff, on the other hand, seemed awfully nervous. I wonder if this next round of hires is his last chance to get it right before Dad hands control of the team to someone else.
