Charles says:
When I went to Fantasy Camp in Port St Lucie in 1990, Jerry Koosman was one of the ‘old-timers’ there. I have a pic w him that I will send later. Can’t believe I was ever that skinny.
Anyway, one night I went to dinner w some other campers, Koosman, and Wayne Garrett. He relayed a story to me directly that in 1969, he went to camp after a terrific first season when he finished 2d in the rookie of the year balloting to Johnny Bench in the closest voting in history, 10 1/2 to 9 1/2. When he was presented with his new contract, his salary had been doubled–from $6,000 to $12,000!!
True story.
This was February 1990 in Port St Lucie. They housed us in the minor league clubhouse by the back fields. There were over 100 of us there that week. Amazingly, I ran into one guy this season in the Delta Club…
Keep this stuff coming folks…it’s a long way until March 1st. [email protected]
how come we never goofed on those uniforms for being a blatant rip off of the yankees roads?? the lettering font is identical, maybe a little taller. but they arent black trimmed which makes them automatically better than todays…..
Osh we did. We just didn’t have a blog or email then. I mentioned it in the hallway. I never liked those.
