If these r in order, i disagree w/ the order. I don’t think Bonilla was the second worst, more like the 4th worst…waaay ahead of him is castillo and coleman.
6. Jason Bay, New York Mets — Bay signed a five-year, $80.0 million deal with the Mets with the hopes that he could actually tame the cavernous outfield at Citi Field with his bat. Umm, not so much. After hitting 36 home runs with Boston the year before, Bay hit 6 with the Mets. At this rate, the Mets should get about 30 home runs for their $80 million investment, or about $2.7 million per home run.
Had the Mets won that 2006 NLCS, Ollie wouldn’t be #1. He might not even be on this list. He threw six solid innings in Game 7. That was the last good game he pitched for the Mets.
I think it’s too early to judge Bay. It took Wright until season two at Citi to adjust to the ballpark, so let’s see what Bay does going forward.
That was pre the signing though. facts are he was injured, and hurt for most of the contract and probably will be cut before he can put any value to it.
Castillo is by far not on that list though. Not even positive about Matsui.
Cedeno the second time? or was that a trade?
Pedro Martinez is #2 on my list. He had a great 2005 season, but look at his stats after that and keep in mind we were paying him $14M a season to be a cheerleader because he was always injured. Don’t let the name deceive you.
