Ah..thanks to the Daily News for reminding me to write about this. I have been meaning to do so all week.
So you’re probably wondering why the Mets are having “Pyrotechnics” night as opposed to “fireworks” and defaulted into “the Mets are stupid” mode like jerks like me tend to do.
Well, turns out there is a difference..
the team’s annual fireworks night – endangered when the club moved to Citi Field – has been revived with a unique pyrotechnics display set to light up Queens Friday.
Mets brass scrambled to save the popular pastime after realizing that launching fireworks beyond the center field fence is impossible at Citi Field because it’s too close to chop shops and junkyards.
The team tested pyrotechnics, which don’t go as high but can be exploded in the stadium, after a game last season.
If the second Pyrotechnics Night goes well after today’s Mets-Philadelphia Phillies game, the team has pledged to establish a new annual rite.
