Hi Shannon….
I started reading your blog a few months ago and instantly became a fan. Thanks for giving voice to Met fans who remember rooting for the team before the Wilpons started turning a trip to Shea (yes, Shea) into a shakedown.
Anyway, I’m a collector of Mets publications from 1962 to the present and, with the seemingly imminent departure of Carlos Beltran, wanted to share with you my ultimate “what if” item. It’s a “phantom” 2006 World Series program featuring the American League Champion Tigers vs. the National League Champion Mets. I was told that all copies were supposed to have been destroyed after Beltran looked at strike 3, but at least this one made it out to tease all of us who are still tortured by that game. Figured you might get a kick out of it.
Keep up the good work….I’ll send along some more unusual Mets stuff in the future.
Steve
it still hurts…
Great!!!… We need more of these mistakes, if only for moral!
As I was reading this, and getting the knot in my stomach every time I think about “that” at-bat with Beltran when our World Series dreams abruptly died, he just hit a two-run homer into the upper deck at Citi Field.
